BEST GAME CONDUCTED TO IPHAWA WEAVERS OF IMPASUGONG

The Local Government Unit of Impasug-ong through the Municipal Economic and Enterprise Development Office (MEEDO), in coordination with the Department of Trade & Industry - Bukidnon conducted an entrepreneurial development training to the members of the Impasug-ong Handicraft Producers and Workers Association (IPHAWA) last August 30, 2006 at the AITC, Impasug-ong, Bukidnon.

The main objective of this workshop training is to give participants in the training seminar an opportunity to experience the effects of their business decisions in a simulated business environment.

Thirty participants attended the said training, twenty-six are women and four are men. They are taught the basics in conducting business on a day-to-day basis such as planning, saving and making decisions with regards to their business. Furthermore, they were also taught about basics of record keeping and income statement computation.

The resource person for the training is Ms. Imelda C. Caluya, STIDS of DTI-Bukidnon and assisted by Junar B. Merla, STIDS and Kleo Marlo R. Sialongo, TIDS/CARP.

TRAINER'S TRAINING ON EXPORT QUALITY FIRST FRY BANANA CHIPS PRODUCTION HELD

Last September 8-9, 2006, DTI-CARP Bukidnon organized a training on first fried banana chips production at UFFAP Cooperative Facility, Malita, Davao del Sur.

The training, titled “Trainer’s Training on Export Quality First Fried Banana Chips”. The training was sponsored by the Strategic Development Cooperation-Asia (SDC-Asia), in coordination with the local government of Malitbog and DTI-Bukidnon, as part of its program that is funded by the European Union – Small Projects Facility (EU-SPF) named “Aligning Food Supply Chains to EU Market Requirement”.

This training is part of the One Town, One Product (OTOP) Program of the Local Government of Malitbog, which identified organic banana as its priority product under the said program. The proponents of the said activity are the organic banana producers of Malitbog, mostly from the POMIKKO ARC.

The main aim of this training is to transfer the technology on export quality first fried banana chips production to the farmers and to LGU officials as well as to upgrade the participant’s skills in banana chips production. Furthermore, it aims to develop the participant’s capability as trainers in first fried banana chips production.

Five participants attended the said training, including 1 DTI-CARP staff. The participants have been already trained with the basics skills in banana chips processing.

After the training, the LGU of Malitbog hopes to establish a first fried banana chips production facility in the municipality, funded by the SDC-Asia but also with equity from the proponent.

DTI-CARP SOUTHERN BUKIDNON OFFICE CONDUCTS BAMBOO HANDICRAFT TRAINING


DTI-CARP Southern Bukidnon conducted the "Bamboo-Based Handicraft Making Skills Training" last September 6-8, 2006 at Barangay Cabadiangan, Kadingilan, Bukidnon. The proponent of the training is the Cabadiangan Multipurpose Cooperative, a cooperative operating in the barangay.

The resource speaker of the said training was Ms. Filipinas L. Cordero of Central Mindanao University-University Extension, based in Musuan, Maramag, Bukidnon. Ms. Cordero is an expert in handicraft-making especially in bamboo handicrafts.

Fifteen participants, all female, participated in the said training. They learned the basics in making bamboo based handicrafts such as bamboo vases & decorative bamboo handicrafts.

With the knowledge that the participants have gained in the said training, DTI-CARP is hoping that it will be established as one of the income generating projects (IGP) of the cooperative that will help augment the income of the agrarian reform benefeciaries (ARBs) and also create employment in the area.

EFFECTIVE BUSINESS COUNSELING COURSE FOR MINDANAO-BASED CARP PERSONNEL HELD

The Effective Business Counseling Course (EBCC) for DTI-CARP was conducted last August 13-20, 2006 at the Marco Hotel, Alwana Business Park, Cagayan de Oro City.

The DTI-CARP, through the University of the Philippines-Institute of Small-Scale Industries (UP-ISSI), conducted the EBCC training course to the CARP personnel who were not yet on board when the same course was conducted in 2004. The course is designed to further equip the field personnel as effective business counselors in the agrarian reform communities (ARCs).

The training was participated by 24 CARP personnel from the Visayas and Mindanao regions, including the three CARP personnel of DTI-Bukidnon.

The EBCC Training Seminar is composed of lectures and workshops about the business counseling in the four areas of business, namely: marketing, production, human resource management and financial management. The participants were taught about the step-by-step procedure of business counseling in the four areas. Each participant is then required to come up with an Integrated Consultancy Survey Report (ICSR) for one of its client and defend it from the critique. The ICSR serves as the final output of the EBCC training.
